Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts, especially as a Southerner. I appreciate how many regionalisms comprise our massively diverse country.
Not captioning the Spanish with English was really a missed opportunity to make non-Spanish speakers feel included in the message while simultaneously reminding English-only speakers what it’s like to try and navigate anything in a language that’s not native to you.
But my overarching disappointment is that second and third languages are not a cornerstone of our K-12 curriculum like math and science. We are perhaps the most monolingual of all the so-called developed nations and we are poorer for it.
