January fires rage across California. Not even the wealthy have been spared this unseasonable devastation. When did the dead of winter become fire season? It is not hyperbolic to say the destruction looks apocalyptic but our president-elect, instead of partnering with Governor Newsom to offer solidarity and solutions, is childishly trying to taunt “Governor” Trudeau, making immature digs about annexing Canada to usurp an entire sovereign nation as the “51st state” of the U.S. It’s absurd.

Obviously, the soon-to-be commander-in-chief is still sulking about Prime Minister Trudeau’s observation to other world leaders that Trump’s behavior at a UN conference five years ago was unconventional. Hell hath no fury like a petty man who feels mocked and left out. It’s giving King Joffrey.

As the U.S. continues to prevaricate about the precise definition of “genocide” and “famine” and gender-based violence in Gaza, we are unhesitating in labeling and condemning these same atrocities in Sudan.

The unexpected ceasefire is reported with an ever-shifting pie chart of credit-seeking, cautious optimism, and unfiltered cynicism.

How can one American voter possibly make any difference?

No, Biden wasn’t going to “save” us from runaway capitalism any more than Harris would have saved the middle class. And that’s ok. Politicians…
